SUCCESS STORIES

Chaplain Debi and her First Responder K-9, Ruby, recently attended a four-day training and certification conference in Southern California.  They were accompanied by 20 additional K-9 teams, and completed rigorous "POST Certified" training.  This training meets the highest nationwide standards, and is a combination of classroom learning, field work, and being able to stay cool and calm in distracting settings.

Debi and Ruby worked and trained on police vessels, school campuses, near loud bagpipe ceremonies, and even alongside gunfire to simulate a twenty-one gun salute.

This training, along with the close bond between Debi and Ruby, allows this dynamic duo to support the Harbor Police Department in a variety of ways.  Oftentimes, when an officer is involved in a stressful situation, Debi and Ruby show up to deescalate the situation.  This may involve conversation, or may just involve some fluffy love from Ruby to the affected officer.  Debi calls this, "the power of the dog".

Congratulations to Debi and Ruby for their recent training and certification, and a huge thank you for being there for the department!
